This coffee tamper (translate " compressor " or " coffee tamper " in proper French) from the brand Ascaso is metal (58mm).
Its special feature is that it has a telescopic rod that regulates the pressure exerted on the grind and ensures very high consistency in tamping at the bottom of the filter. It's a pro tool.
Even though the fineness and consistency of the grind is the fundamental parameter for making a good espresso, the tamping of the grind remains of paramount importance.
For the grind to be distributed evenly, the tamper is essential to perform the operation.
We can say that tamping is successful when there are no more cracks in the grind (cracks through which the water would pass too quickly – this phenomenon is called channeling in English).
