Why choose a distributor?
The distribution of coffee in a portafilterfilter is one of the steps not to be overlooked for achieving a perfect extraction. Your coffee puck in your filter must be flat and homogeneous so that water can infiltrate throughout the entire puck and extract all the aromas from your coffee. If your puck does not have uniform density, you risk encountering the phenomenon of "Channeling" (when water chooses an easier path through the puck and extracts only part of the aromas from your coffee puck). The coffee distributor is an effective aid for achieving a straight and evenly dense puck and facilitates tamping.
