The EP2336/40 is a compact bean-to-cup machine with awater tank that fits into the side of the machine, which saves space. Its black color and silver details make it elegant and suitable for any kitchen. The supplied containers remainquite large, which means you don't have to refill them often:
Philips has worked on the lid of the bean container of itsSilent Brew range: now theseal is much thicker and refined. The grinding of your coffee beans will therefore take place undersound shielding to guarantee you one of the most successful and satisfying coffee preparation experiences.
This sound comfort, it iscertified by Quiet Mark, but also by BaristaDiscount since we recorded only52 decibels on average when preparing an espresso. In addition to this benefit, the lid of the coffee bean container is dark and opaque to protect your beans from oxidation as well as light rays forbetter preservation.
Setting your drink is very simple on the Philips 2300 Series. You can prepare a delicious drink by quickly selecting it onthe modern touch screen of the machine. The drinks are represented by color iconsfor intuitive use.
And there will be something for everyone thanks to the 4 drinks offered by the EP2336/40:classic espresso, cappuccino, black coffee, and cappuccino. Somehot water is also available which will delight tea and infusion lovers. This espresso machine also has a ground coffee chute(pre-ground coffee) which will be ideal for a small decaf in the evening for example.
The100% ceramic grinder of this coffee machine is adjustable over 12 positions, which allows you to go from an ultra-fine grind to coarse particles. Depending on the coffee you use, you can thusplay on its bitterness/acidity and adapt it as best as possible to your taste. As a reminder, the finer the grind, the more the water passing through it will be able to absorb the aromas.
My Coffee Choice: on this machine, you canchoose the intensity and length of your coffeesonthree different positions. This is also the case for the milk foam when preparing cappuccinos.

And that's a very good point for this bean-to-cup machine: Philips has made some changes, particularly to the temperature of its extraction. Now, thebalance between acidity and bitterness the coffee that comes out in the cup is very good. Previously, the coffee had a smoky aftertaste because the temperature was far too hot. Very nice improvement of the brand !
These changes are directly noticeable in the cup: you get a coffee with thick crema, persistent and hazelnut color. The large containers of this coffee maker make it ideal for a small family, or a couple who will appreciate the simple milk foam to prepare thanks to the LatteGo system.
The LatteGo system is Philips' milk system that (unsurprisingly) is approved. Very simple to use, it only requires filling and attaching the supplied carafe to the machine. This plastic carafe is made up of three pieces that all come apart: super practical for cleaning! And in addition to being easy, it's good: the foam obtained is thick and it blends very well with the espresso for a indulgent cappuccino.

What we think:
Philips offers several machines this year under the SilentBrew technology. It is true that they are quiet, and in addition, you can make a cappuccino or pour hot water for an infusion or tea. Its LatteGo carafe is very easy (not to say the easiest!) to clean, but the foam is very "airy" and not creamy enough for my taste.
It remains simple to use and very intuitive: you select the drink, the intensity, the cup length, and you have your coffee. Coffee enthusiasts will find it regrettable the lack of information (quantity in ml, temperature for example).
The EP2336/40 offers you the most well-known and popular drinks, but the choice quickly becomes limited. It remains suitable for a couple who drink coffee daily but prefer espressos.
For more enjoyment and options, I recommend turning to a Philips Series 3000 machine.
