DeLonghi Magnifica S 22.140.b: small machine, large containers
The DeLonghi Magnifica S 22.140.B espresso machine is a popular option thanks to its remarkable features. Despite its compact size, it offers a large capacity, making it ideal for couples or people who drink several coffees a day.

Note: Over the years, the ECAM 22.140.B machine has undergone changes, unfortunately not always positive. For example, the bean hopper used to be semi-transparent and fitted with a seal, but it is now completely opaque and devoid of an airtight seal. As a result, the machine’s noise is less insulated and the coffee beans are less protected from oxidation.
Magnifica S ECAM 22.140.B grinder espresso: the settings
The Magnifica coffee machine offers two drinks, espresso and longo, accessible directly from the front panel. You also have the option to make these drinks in double version thanks to its large brewing chamber, which saves time during preparation. However, after tests, it was found that this type of double extraction is generally less qualitative than when performed individually.
The 22.140.B grinder espresso is equipped with a ground coffee chute, allowing you to make different coffee extractions, such as a decaf for example. You can also use the simple steam wand with plastic coating to prepare milk-based drinks, using a stainless-steel jug with fresh milk, whether animal or plant-based.
This machine is easy to use, and you can adjust the strength of your coffee using the dial located on the front panel. This dial allows you to change the amount of coffee that will be ground for each extraction.
The machine is equipped with a DeLonghi steel grinderadjustable over 13 positionsWe recommend starting extractions with setting 5, then adjusting the grind to be finer or coarser depending on the result you want to achieve. Please note that the result in the cup will only be visible after about 3 extractions.
Perform a qualitative coffee extraction with the 22.140.B
The DeLonghi Magnifica delivers quality coffee, according to the rigorous tests it has undergone. It produces a balanced extraction with a beautiful crema. Although the extraction is slightly too hot, it does not burn the flavor of the coffee. However, if you are looking for a strong and creamy coffee, it is recommended to choose the maximum strength, which is 13 grams (baristas use up to 10 grams). It should be noted that this higher amount can lead to overconsumption of coffee.
Regarding the steam wand, the results were disappointing. The milk was difficult to froth and the result was closer to hot milk than creamy foam. If steam wand performance is an important criterion for you, it is advisable to consider the evolution of the Magnifica, the DeLonghi 22.127.B, which is equipped with an improved steam wand.
The maintenance steps for the DeLonghi Magnifica S coffee machine
Regular maintenance of your coffee machine is essential to ensure perfect extraction and preserve the taste of the coffee. Here are the important maintenance steps:
- Thefiltration: If you use tap water, it is recommended to use a filter cartridge to remove limescale particles and purify the taste of the water. The cartridge should be replaced every 2 to 3 months depending on the hardness of your water.
- Thedescaling: Even with a filtration system, it is necessary to perform periodic descaling to remove limescale that can build up on the thermoblock. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to perform this operation.One dose of descaler supplied with the machine.
- Thecleaning: The coffee group retains oil and coffee residues during extractions. On this model, the coffee group is removable, simply rinse it under hot (not too hot) water once a week, let it dry and replace it in the machine when it is turned off. The drip tray is dishwasher safe.
- Themilk system: If your machine is equipped with a steam wand for preparing milk-based drinks, it is important to purge the wand before and after use. Also use a specific cleaner to eliminate all bacteria and maintain the cleanliness of the wand.

Who is this machine for: This machine is particularly suitable for people making their first purchase of a bean-to-cup espresso machine, as it is easy to get started with. However, if you are looking for a machine capable of producing perfectly creamy milk foam, we recommend instead turning to the newer version, the Magnifica S 22.127.B.
